Robert Rauschenberg Strategic Structure
Robert Rauschenberg and Kat Epple play a "Strategic Structure",
a musical art sculpture designed by artist Lawrence
Voytek, Bob Stohl and
Kat Epple. Music is created by bowing, striking, tapping, and rubbing the
metal plate and stand. This music was recorded and will be released as an
album in the future.
Robert Rauschenberg is a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist known for helping
to redefine American art in the 1950s and '60s, providing an alternative to the
then-dominant aesthetic of Abstract Expressionism.
He became a pivotal figure in the emerging pop art movement. His enormously inventive
paintings, incorporating everyday images and objects, are executed in a loose,
spontaneous style. He has also experimented with assemblage. Major works of the
1980s and 90s are mainly large constructions, and many of his later works have
incorporated photographic images.
